Venice factories tour by boat

Murano’s reputation as a center for glassmaking started in 1291 when the government, fearing the fire threat in a city of wooden buildings, ordered the glassmakers to move their foundries to the small island. Today Murano’s glass art is widely recognized and it’s still possible to visit some authentic glass factories, as well as attend to a master’s workshop or simply have a look at the gorgeous showrooms and buy the handicrafts.

The tour will continue with a trip to the colorful Burano’s island, where some women artisans maintain the delicate tradition of lace-making craft. On the island, where we’ll have a traditional lunch, we shall visit the oldest fishermen cooperative in Europe and learn about the types of fish populating the marine habitat.

The tour will be completed with a visit to Mariano Fortuny’s private showroom. Although the factory itself allows no visitors, it’s still possible to admire and buy the beautiful damask cloth and the gorgeous modern fabrics. A stop over the secret garden, open by appointment only, is included in the itinerary.

In order to meet your needs, the tour can last 5 or 8 hours (half or full day tour).
